1996 -- Graduate from Durango's Fort Lewis College Magna Cum Laude, drunk.
1996 -- Hired to do news for Farmington, New Mexico radio powerhouses Big Dog and K-Frog (seriously). Can't do news without cracking jokes so moved to Big Dog morning show. I become Jared Russell of Martin and Russell. Set station record with 32 share of women 18-35.
1997 -- Feeling empowered and a bit overconfident, I move to Portland, OR to get into talk radio. I host informercials. End up moderating a show with a psychic and a conspiracy theorist. Their opinions of the future differ. They do not get along. I move back to Colorado. The psychic had predicted this.
1998 -- Become the epicenter for controversy and fun while hosting a morning show in Durango.
2000 -- Move to Colorado Springs to host afternoons on KRDO-FM. Focus on the Family complains. But they listen and show's ratings go from number 12 to number 2. Begin my four-year tenure as a nationally syndicated host on Jones Satellite Network.
2002 -- Hired by Alice 105-9 in Denver. Get married to coolest chick ever. Become Entercom Denver's commercial copywriter.
2003 -- Interview Topher Grace, Kevin Bacon, Jon Voight and Bob Newhart. Do the commencement speech at my high school alma mater in Walden, CO. Win Englewood Centennial Celebration writing contest with this story.
2004 -- Win 'Bush in :30' contest. Get to bring Al Franken on stage. Julia Stiles says my speech was hilarious but in conversation my other jokes don't do so well. Jeanine Garofalo looks on and says "isn't he cute". My wife gets a little tired of hearing that story so I thought I'd share it with you. Become TV sports reporter.
2004 -- Remember when I interviewed Newhart? Well during that conversation I asked him if when he came to Colorado I could open for him.
He agrees and we do two shows (I did ten minutes, he an hour) at the Union Colony Civic Center in Greeley.
2005 -- Quit being commercial copywriter and move off Alice to join Denver's number 1 morning show, Murphy and Jo on KOSI 101, and take care of my mother. Build a studio in our shed with help from this great guy.
2006 -- While with KOSI, become the irreverent entertainment reporter for KQMT 99-5 The Mountain. Rake in some serious change as a corporate entertainer. And you know how pennies add up.
2007 -- Still doing comedy but have been eaten alive by the Showbiz Scene. It's now both live and recorded on 60 radio stations and in seven newspapers. Quin is born.
2008 -- In the fall I hugged my wife and asked if she'd thought about having another kid. She replied, "I think we already did that..."
2009 -- Otto is born.
Long story short...
I was born in Longmont, CO. From there we moved to Allenspark, CO and finally settled in Gould, CO. I can actually say 'settled' in the Old West connotation because no one else lived there. Sure there had been a few lumber camps and even a prisoner of war camp where we kept bad Germans during WWII. But that was all gone by the time we decided to live their in 1979. Gould is a beautiful place, really one of the most scenic in the country, but it's cold. They kept war captives there for god's sake.
Now I'm all grown up and live in Englewood, CO with my wife, Sarah. I really love the running water, because I didn't have it as a kid, and the light rail. Light rail should go everywhere. Of course then we'd have frustrating light rail jams and scary instances of rail rage, but hopping on a train and getting where you need to go is priceless.
